Maybe it’s the fact that 2012 is a Leap Year and the name of our agency is 20nine. Maybe it’s because it’s a new year and every company is eager to generate growth right out of the gate. Whatever the reason, 20nine is starting the new year with a new service line designed to help clients jumpstart growth. It’s called A Day of Inventing. These one-day brand invention labs focus on a client’s most pressing challenges, and a day of focused brainpower is devoted to solve these challenges in the effort to jumpstart new growth. “Ah, jumpstarting growth,” you say. That would explain the frog in the promotion.

Creating what clients need most: time and focus
In talking to clients, we’ve discovered that some of the biggest challenges facing growth are time and focus. With today’s frenetic pace, both are in short supply. By setting aside a day and bringing the right people together, a team can effectively focus on the challenge and apply thinking to come up with the solutions. Recently, we’ve been involved with several clients who were looking for deep positioning ideas that could help them distinguish their brand. In both cases, teams were running in different directions often “putting out fires” that occur day to day. By devoting a day to a particular challenge and assembling the right team, we were able to focus on the business and generate an impressive list of actionable ideas in a matter of hours. There’s idea-building and “focused play” built into the process but the other benefit to the day is that it gives the internal team time to work together in a room (versus on their Blackberries), strengthen their rapport with each other, and even build morale. It also provides the agency with an opportunity to work closely with the client on matters related to their business and not just simply create ads or websites.

Can one day really make a difference?
It depends. Taken seriously, a day of focused thinking and team collaboration can do great things for momentum, and can put a company on track to achieve the growth they’re looking for in the new year. It takes a little planning. Commitment. And hard work by the players in the room. Hopefully, our Day of Inventing labs can help our current clients jumpstart new growth and can inspire future clients to take the time and apply the focus they need to achieve the goals they set for themselves in 2012.
